The Pool Deck Supervisor and Teachers constantly monitor your child’s progress. When your child has achieved the skills required at each level, he/she will be awarded a certificate and promoted to the next level.
Helping Children Learn
Many children do well with their parents present during lessons. They love to show you what they can do! By praising even their smallest achievement, they will gain in confidence.
Arrival Time
Children should arrive 5 minutes before the start of class so they can be settled and ready to start on time.
Goggles
Seeing clearly underwater is important for the learner swimmer. A good pair of goggles will be as indispensable to your child as his/her bathers. Well fitting goggles can be purchased from reception. We advise parents to write their child’s name on the strap with a waterproof marker.
Bathers
Chlorine resistant bathers are recommended. We ask that solar tops, T Shirts and boardshorts not to be worn as these inhibit swimming progression, making it very difficult for children to move through the water.
Caps
Hair falling across the face and eyes can be distracting while swimming. Wearing a cap or tying back long hair can avoid this problem.
Facilities
We keep the water at 33c and air heated at 28c for the comfort of the swimmers. This may not always be comfortable for those watching from the side, but it helps children learn and gain confidence, without the added stress of being cold.
The Learning Curve
It is normal for children to occasionally plateau in their learning. At some stage they may even appear to be regressing. This is common if they are learning a new or different skill, such as breathing technique. Please be patient, your child is an individual and will learn at his/her own pace. We cannot tell you how long it will take your child to learn to swim, but we can guarantee we will do everything in our power to help him/her progress as quickly as possible.
Holiday Swim Program
In addition to our regular lessons, most school holidays we conduct a Holiday Swim Program, where for a reduced fee, your child can receive intensive tuition for 4 or 5 consecutive days. This program produces significant results, especially for pupils who are either new to the program or who are on the verge of achieving the next certificate.
